Full Terms and Conditions
Eligibility to enter
Anyone aged 11 years and over can enter the competition (although those aged 11 – 15 are judged in a separate youth category in collaboration with Plan International and are excluded from the Photo Safari prize) with the exception of employees of CBRE and employees of any company chosen to sponsor prizes for the competition.
The competition is open to professional and amateur photographers, however, the entrant must be the sole author and owner of the copyright and all other rights in all images, which they enter. It is the legal responsibility of the entrant, and not the organisers, to ensure that they comply with ownership, copyright and other rights requirements, that they own the rights to reproduction of their images, and that the images which they submit are lawful and in accordance with these rules.
If ineligibility is discovered after the prizes have been awarded, all prizes received by the entrant must be returned in their original condition or refunded to CBRE to the full retail value of the item. Images that have won prizes in any other competition(s) are not eligible for this competition.
Entries that CBRE considers (at its sole discretion) do not fulfil the above eligibility criteria will be deemed ineligible and disqualified without appeal.
Opening and closing dates
All images must be received by midnight (00:00) 8th August 2014. The website will open for entries at midnight (00:00) on the 17th March 2014 and will no longer accept any entries after it has closed at midnight (00:00) on the 8th August 2014. Entries can only be made via the website.
Competitors, who have submitted images, the proof being an email submission received on the site, but those images have been rejected by the technology of the site, will be permitted to submit their images into the competition. They will be notified individually to this effect. Postal entries, or entries made in any form whatsoever other than via the website, will not be accepted.
Number of Entries Per Competitor
Each individual may submit one image for each hour of the competition, (a total maximum of 24 images). All images entered (from entrants aged 16 and over) and subsequently short-listed as finalists, will be considered for the ultimate prize of Urban Photographer of the Year, regardless of the hour they are entered for. Entrants aged 11-15 will be judged by a separate panel managed by Plan International.
Cost of Entry
CBRE has sponsored this competition to allow all entries to be submitted without charge to you (other than your normal costs of using the Internet).
All the judges are appointed by CBRE who reserve the right to change any judge without prior notice. The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into by competition entrants. Any competitor seeking to communicate directly with a judge on any matter whatsoever concerning the competition will be disqualified from the competition.
CBRE is providing prizes for The Urban Photographer of the Year (first prize) and the 3 regional prizes (Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific). As such they reserve the right to change any of the prizes for items of similar value, at their own discretion and without notice, should the circumstances require them to do so. Any changes will be notified by a posting on the website. Any prizes involving travel and accommodation and that are paid for by CBRE shall be deemed private travel and not travel organised by a travel agency or corporate body; however please note that the operator of the holidays constituting these prizes is as stated in the prize list and under no circumstances will CBRE be deemed to be the operator of such holidays. The prize winner shall be responsible for any additional expenses such as travel insurance and any other costs not specified within the prize.
The prizes are non-transferable and cash alternatives will not be offered or given. In accepting any of the prizes offered in this competition, the winners acknowledge that CBRE and the sponsors of the competition will not be held liable for any loss, damages or injury associated with accepting or using the prizes.
The sponsors of the 24 hours of the competition have the right to change the prizes offered after consultation with CBRE and on the condition that any alternative has at least the market value of the original offering.
Copyright and Other Intellectual Property Rights
At no stage of this competition, or subsequent to it, shall CBRE, or any of the competition sponsors, lay any claim whatsoever to the ownership of copyright or other intellectual property rights in the images entered into the competition. Where images are used, other than in the usage agreement in the conditions of entry, CBRE will print a credit to the photographer. You shall indemnify CBRE, its employees, contractors and agents and keep them indemnified against all losses, costs, claims, demands, damages and expenses (each whether direct or indirect) arising from any claim that any materials or information you submit infringe the rights of any third party. By entering, competitors agree to their images to be held on CBRE databases and used in conjunction with the promotion of the competition. Should CBRE choose to use any competitor’s image entered into the competition, for any purpose other than the direct promotion of the competition, it (CBRE) shall apply directly to that photographer and be eligible to pay fees at a 50% discount to standard stock rates of its current agencies. This does not constitute a commitment by CBRE to use any entrant’s images, in any way whatsoever. CBRE does not own the copyright of any image or any component part thereof. All credit for these photographs and any component parts thereof will be assigned to the original author(s).
